Hugo Afonso has a background in Engineering, having first performed management functions.
Later, he dedicated himself to the transport sector at the most important player in road and rail infrastructure in Portugal.
He was involved in the area of management and control of national rail circulation, building up relevant management and engineering knowledge in the areas of railway operations, railway, catenary and signaling.
During that work experience, he entered a Master’s Degree in Transport Systems at Instituto Superior Técnico, and is currently completing his Master’s Thesis, with the aim of studying, through microsimulation tools, the impact of the progressive introduction of autonomous vehicles on an urban highway, contributing to the definition of efficient and sustainable integration strategies.
Prior to joining VTM, Hugo was the person responsible for the implementation of a new rail freight operator in Portugal, having actively contributed to the development of the sector.
